Today we are featuring the gorgeous spring wedding of Ashleigh and Justin, captured by Ladd Photography.
Justin Smith shares a bird’s eye view of his wedding day in this humorous and romantic recounting of the events.
My name is Justin Smith and on April 12, 2014 at 4 p.m. I married Ashleigh (Grear) Smith. The day for me started very hectic. Waking up after hosting my own bachelor party, I was still feeling the effects. I had ten groomsmen, and only two of them lived in Mobile, so I wanted to host the party to show my appreciation to them for traveling to being a part of my special day.
Excited, I woke early the day of the wedding. We planned to meet at the hotel at 9 a.m. to load into a limo and go take pictures. On the way to hotel, my line brother, Austin, and I had a flat tire. After attempting to fill the tire using a bike pump (Austin’s Idea), we were picked up by Dwight (the photographer) who was on his way to the hotel. Once there, we made sure we were accounted for, Dwight began taking photos before relocating to Daphne, Alabama to take more photos.
We were back at the hotel around noon, and from there, four of us went to get Austin’s car, which we had left at Publix. We were supposed to meet back at the church at 2:30, but I told them to get there by 3:30. I knew we were not going to start the wedding at 4 p. m. as planned, and the wedding planner didn’t want us seen before the wedding. I felt the best way for us not to be seen was not to be there. So, after pumping and driving and stopping at air pumps and pumping and driving some more, Austin finally gave up and called a tow company. They towed the car to Firestone located directly in front of the Marriott. I have footage of us outside Publix pumping the tire, WITH A BIKE PUMP, and putting tape on the tire to try and keep the air inside it.
After calling for a tow, I rushed home to put my tux back on and report to the church. I was not nervous at all. I was ready for the moment, or so I thought, but when I walked out, I became very anxious! We had written our own vows, so that was in place, but no one knew I was going to sing a KC and JoJo song to her while she walked down the aisle. Her bridesmaids were beautiful. Our parents looked very nice. I was nervous I would cry and not be able to sing. When they opened the doors, and I saw my bride, I couldn’t do anything but smile.
Ashleigh was the perfect eye candy to calm me down. The fact that I knew the depth of her beauty made me smile even more. That wonderful woman was about to be my wife. I took a deep breath, smiled, and began to sing. I “kilt” it, as I knew I would, I might I add.
The reception was at the Marriott, which also did the food. Derrick Griffin with Griffin and Co. decorated the room beautifully. My bride and I danced, laughed, and really let loose to have some fun. We had many friends who traveled to Mobile for the wedding. After the reception, we went to our room for a while, planning to meet our friends later and go to TAG Bar and Lounge downtown Mobile. The next morning, I woke on the couch in the Marriott’s honeymoon suite. Ashleigh managed to make it to the bed. That afternoon, we headed to Tampa, Florida to leave on a cruise Monday. We enjoyed a wonderful five-day cruise to the Cayman Islands and Cozumel.
A special thanks to all the people who made our wedding day beautiful and special.
