Here and champagneandcake.com we love to feature entrepreneurs and today is the first in a two-part series featuring makeup artist Melissa Michelle with Melissa Michelle Cosmetics. She is makeup artist that has created and launched her own makeup line. Here is her story…

C&C: Please share a little background about your and your company.

My name is Melissa Michelle, and my makeup line is called Melissa Michelle Cosmetics.

I created Melissa Michelle Cosmetics because I wanted to offer natural looking beauty solutions for customers with hard to match complexions. My line has a full range of cosmetic products for the complexion, eyes, and lips.

The star product of my makeup line is the Melissa Michelle Magic Stix. This complexion stick is a cream to powder formula that can be used as a concealer and as a foundation. It is oil free, lightweight on the skin, and has an SPF of 18. I love that it’s quick and easy to use, and the customer can adjust the coverage to their liking.

C&C: What is your favorite quote?

“Life is a journey not a destination.” Ralph Waldo Emerson

C& C: What made you decide to become a makeup artist?

I love the transformation and the confidence that a person exudes when they feel beautiful!

C&C: What are the top 20 tips every bride should know about makeup for their big day.

  1. Do not stress. Your skin can easily breakout and react to stress.

  2. Drink plenty of water before your big day, so that your skin feels hydrated and supple.

  3. Eat healthy. Your skin will look its best if you’re feeding your body the right foods

  4. Follow a skincare regimen. Cleanse, tone, and moisturize daily.

  5. Exfoliate. Exfoliating sloughs dead skin cells and should be done no more than twice a week.

  6. Be consistent. Get the best results by using skincare consistently for at least thirty days before the wedding.

  7. Hire a professional makeup artist who understands lighting and HD photography to give you the best makeup results.

  8. Schedule a makeup trial run. It is important to know exactly how your makeup will look and last throughout the day. A makeup trial is a necessity.

  9. Trust the artist. Bridal makeup is different from everyday makeup, so a little bit more is required to make your features pop in your professional photographs.

  10. Communicate. Please let your makeup artist know if you have any allergies or if you don’t feel comfortable with something, such as certain colors. A professional will be sensitive to this information.

  11. Wax before your big day. I would not recommend waxing your brows or facial hair the day of the wedding. The skin could be irritated or risk a skin reaction.

  12. Retouch your lips. Have lip color within easy reach to refresh your lips for a polished look in every picture.

  13. Request a makeup setting spray. Makeup setting sprays locks your makeup in place for up to 12 hours. Most professional makeup artists have them in their makeup kits.

  14. Request a consistent makeup style for the bridal party. Not every member of your bridal party may use the same makeup artist, but consistency creates a timeless look in pictures.

  15. Don’t forget about the moms. Include the mothers of the bride and groom in the makeup service. They will want to look their best for the professional photos taken with you.

  16. Watch your alcohol intake prior to the wedding day. Alcohol tends to dry out the skin and can make you look tired on your big day.

  17. Get plenty of rest. Although you are excited, don’t cheat yourself out of a good night’s rest before your special day. Proper rest makes your look and feel refreshed.

  18. Plan a makeup schedule. A makeup schedule is necessary to make sure that you and your wedding party are prompt and ready for pictures.

  19. Eat something nutritious. Many brides have so many last-minute things to do on their wedding day that they don’t have time to eat. A nutritious meal will give you the energy you need to make it through the day.

  20. Smile. Nobody likes a bridezilla. A positive attitude makes you look and feel your best!
